Course Objectives:
  • 1. Students will be able to explain their own schema for approaching expository text.
  • 2. Students will be able to use structural organization to explain expository text.
  • 3. Students will be able to use strategies appropriate to expository text.
  • 4. Students will be able to recognize connections among ideas in an expository text.
  • 5. Students will be able to question expository text at a variety of comprehension levels.
  • 6. Students will be able to demonstrate awareness of demands for reading expository text.
  • LAC students will increase their confidence level as students.
  • Faculty will examine and determine consistent and effective approaches to teaching Word Concept Mapping to READ 80 students.
  • 70% of students will demonstrate the effectiveness of their chosen vocabulary strategy by accurately using their word in context.
  • 60% of students completing READ 80 will be able to explain their vocabulary strategy use for a given narrative and a given expository excerpt as measured by a rubric constructed by reading faculty as a “meets standard” level in all areas measured.
