Student Learning Outcomes

Course Name: High School Chemistry
Course Number: BSHS CHEM
Course Objectives:
  • Students will pass the final exam.
  • Chemistry students will be able to demonstrate the skill of working productively and collaboratively within a laboratory setting in order to demonstrate proficiency in the properties of matter.
  • Chemistry students will be able to gather data, organize the data, and analyze the data collected within a laboratory setting.
  • Students will use the periodic table to determine the number of valence electrons in an atom and the type of bond the atom can form.
  • Students will determine the relationship between mass, moles, number of particles, and the volume of a gas by converting from one to another.
  • Identify the type of bond created between two atoms.
  • Identify periodic trends for atomic size, ionization energy, electronegativity, and ionic size.
  • Calculate moles, mass, or molecules of reactants or products in a chemical reaction using stoichiometry.
  • Apply the gas laws to solve problems related to changes in pressure, volume, and temperature.
  • Students will be able to use an atomic model to describe the structure of the atom, the location and characteristics of subatomic particles, and the location of valence electrons.
