 PROGRAM LOGISTICS

cooking

  • HOUSING: Housing for instructors teaching in the study abroad program is covered by the program.  There is a pre-approved stipend (which will vary depending on the city, semester, and budget).  Faculty can either have the local coordinator set up housing or they can find their own housing.  When possible, the coordinator takes into consideration the faculty member’s preferences (location, size). If the housing selected by the faculty member exceeds the stipend, the faculty member is responsible for paying the difference.  Friends and family members are allowed to stay with faculty members during the program.

  • AIRFARE: As with housing, the airfare for instructors teaching in the study abroad program is covered by the program.  There is a pre-approved stipend (which will vary depending on the city, semester, and budget).  Faculty can either have the program set up the flights or find their own airfare.  You can choose to fly out with the students or take your own flight separate from the students.  If you find your own flights, the program will pay you the stipend amount.  If the flight selected by the faculty member exceeds the stipend, the faculty member is responsible for paying the difference.  Using free miles is a great way to cut down on expenses.  The program will send you the stipend regardless of how much your flight cost.

  • TRANSPORTATION STIPEND (bus pass): Faculty members may get a transportation pass along with the students to cover the cost of local transportation.  The amount is enough to get to the school site and back home for the number of days school is in session.  It does not cover any additional trips.

  • PROGRAM TRIPS: Every week, there are a number of optional and required activities for the students.  Faculty are invited to attend, but not required to attend.  If you choose to attend, all costs related to that activity are covered by the program.  If you want to invite friends or family to join you, then you are responsible for paying for their costs.  In general, friends and family were welcome to join.  The only exception is if the program organizes an optional trip for the students that has an additional cost.  In that case, faculty can still attend, but have to pay for their expenses, same as the students.
