Gunnery Sergeant E-7
United States Marine Corps
21 Years of Service
Mt. SAC Alumni / University of La Verne alumni

I was raised in Memphis Tennessee. I signed up for the Marine Corps during the summer of 1984 after I graduated from high school. I was in the delayed entry program till January of the following year. I went to Parris Island for boot camp which is in South Carolina. I graduated from boot camp as a PFC E-2. After boot camp I went to my MOS school in North Carolina, and became a Heavy equipment mechanic (1341). That was the beginning of my Marine Corps career. Over the next 10 years I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan twice, back in NC at Camp Lejuene, served on Inspector and Instructor staff in Virginia Beach VA, and Inspector and Instructor staff Barstow CA. By this point I had reached the rank of Sergeant E-5 and requested recruiting duty.

The second half of my career was as a recruiter as part of the 12th Marine Corps District RS Los Angeles RSS Pasadena, CA. As a recruiter I recruited some of the best applicants that the Marine Corps has in its ranks. I became the NCOIC of RSS Pasadena where I had the pleasure of leading some great Marines.  I also was the NCOIC of RSS East Los Angeles which also had some amazing Marines. During those years I changed my MOS to 8412 Career Recruiter and reached the rank of Gunnery Sargent.  I finished off my career in RS Los Angeles.

My greatest accomplishment during my career as a United States Marine was having the opportunity to change and be a part of people’s lives. I made friends for life. Throughout my 21 years of service those are the awards that mean the most to me.
