After transitioning out of the military, it can be challenging because of the roles we left behind. We were once leaders and mentors who were experts in our fields and now taking a step back. Switching roles from service members to students is tough because we went from being at the top of the totem pole to starting a new position. In a way, it feels like a demotion because you are surrounded by students who were doing it longer or who know more than you. However, we always put our best efforts into the work needed to be done.
