My Name is Robert Medina. I grew up in a military, law enforcement family and lived in Pomona for the majority of my life. After high school, I came to Mt. SAC hoping to join the military and studied for two and a half years. Test after test that I didn’t pass, I didn’t give up. I realized I needed a change in my life to become a better person, to reform the soul, and finish my degree in animation. I joined at age 21 and finished with five years of honorable service.

My job as an Aviation Ordinanceman was the assembly and disassembly of live and inert ordinance “Bombs, Missiles, Ammo” along with maintenance for all equipment in our work space and magazine security rove.

I was stationed in Coronado, San Diego on the USS Ronald Reagan, and Bremerton, Washington Naval dry dock.

My accomplishments were the operations; Operation Enduring Freedom -Middle East, Operation New Dawn- Middle East, and Operation Tomodachi, which occurred after the devastating earthquake, triggered the tsunami that hit Fukushima and the nuclear reactors. The ribbons and awards I earned during my time were Anti-terrorism, Global Anti-terrorism, Good Conduct, Marksmen, Humanitarian Relief, letter of recommendation from Security and my division along with a letter of appreciation.

I am proud to be a Veteran because I now know what I want in life. After the good and bad that I’ve experienced I can honestly say that I’m the very few who stood up and answered forth the call to something bigger than my own. After 5 years of service, I can finally realize my dream, reap the benefits of my hard labor, and get my degree that I sought out for. I’m proud of whom I am now and what makes it better is that I’m not alone.
