Sergeant
California Army National Guard
6 Years of Service
Mt. SAC President & CEO

I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley and graduated from La Puente High School. I enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1970 and served on active duty as a Tank Mechanic in 1970 and 1971 during which I was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. I then returned to my National Guard unit in Hemet, California eventually rising to Motor Pool Sergeant from 1974-1976 while I was also Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont. So, I was a College Professor for my day job and an Army Tank Mechanic one weekend a month!

I earned my bachelor degree in chemistry from UCLA and my doctorate in chemistry from UC Riverside.  I have over 40 years of experience in higher education--27 of those as a chemistry professor and 13 as an administrator.

Beyond keeping Hemet safe from Communism during the Vietnam War, some of my proudest accomplishments are authoring three books in the field of chemistry and many articles and papers. I am active in my community and professionally. I serve on the Board of Directors for the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership and the California STEM Learning Network. I was also elected by my peers to serve on the CEO Board of the Community College League of California.
