Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - Omni Update

What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of creating web pages in a manner that allows search engines such as Google or Bing to find and place your website in its results list when appropriate. SEO allows pages to be correctly cataloged and indexed by search engines. This results in an improved web ranking position for your website.

How can I improve the ranking or page listing position by popular search engines for my site?

  1. Title Tag -  This is the title of your web page. Use no more than 70 characters to describe the page. The optimal format is:

Primary Keyword - Secondary Keyword | School and Department

    or

Schools and Department | Primary Keyword and Secondary Keyword

  2. Meta Description Tag - This is a short description of your page to the search engine. The search engine will display this paragraph below your search result.

An example with a web search from Google for the terms "Mt. SAC" is shown below. Both the title tag and meta description are displayed.
