Mt. San Antonio College is thankful for the service of our veteran students and their families. We offer many resources and opportunities to help these veterans and their family members achieve their educational and vocational goals at Mt. SAC.

Our Veterans Services office is located on the upper level of the Student Services Building (9B) in the Department of Financial Aid (counter #6). Our office provides assistance to veterans and eligible dependents seeking educational and/or vocational training. The Veterans Services team is here to help student veterans and eligible dependents take advantage of the resources and educational benefits available to them.

The CalVET Tuition Fee Waiver is just one of many resources available to veterans and their dependents at Mt. SAC. To learn more about the programs and services available, visit our Veterans Services page here.

CalVET Tuition Fee Waiver

The College Tuition Fee Waiver for Veterans’ Dependents (also known as the CalVET Tuition Fee Waiver) waives mandatory system-wide tuition and fees at any State of California Community College, California State University, or University of California campus. This program covers tuition but not other expenses like books, housing, and parking.

To be eligible for the CalVET fee waiver, a student must:

  • Have a parent who is a disabled veteran or have a spouse who is service-connected (S/C), deceased, or rated 100% S/C disabled.
  • Be a child earning less than $11,945 per year (student’s income, not parents’). Note: There is no income limit for a spouse or child of S/C deceased or 100% S/C disabled veterans.
  • Attend a California Community College, California State University, or a University of California school.
  • Meet the in-state residency requirements. You can learn more about the California residency requirements here. [LINK TO RESIDENCY INFORMATION PAGE]
  • Provide proof of the student’s relationship to the veteran, such as a copy of a birth or marriage certificate.

For complete eligibility requirements or assistance in applying for the CalVET Fee Waiver, visit the California Department of Veterans Affairs online or contact the department directly at (916) 653-2573.

Follow these instructions to submit your fee waiver:

  • Once you have been found eligible by the state for these benefits, you will receive an authorization letter from the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (mailed to the address you provided on the initial application).
  • Complete the Board of Governor's Fee Waiver Application [LINK TO BOGW PAGE], noting under the section titled "Special Classifications Enrollment Fee Waivers" that you have certification from the California Department of Veterans Affairs stating you are eligible for a dependent's fee waiver.
  • We recommend our Veteran students submit their BOGW applications in person or via mail with a copy of the authorization letter you received from the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
