Audition Information for Fall 2017
    • [MUS 45] Chamber Singers
      Details

      Auditions for the Chamber Singers take place in the Spring semester only for the following school year.  If you would like more information regarding Chamber Singer auditions, please contact professor Rogers at 909-274-4334 or email him at brogers@mtsac.edu.

    • [MUS 49] Fermata Nowhere
      Information Meeting

      Auditions for Fermata Nowhere will take place during the first week of classes. If you are interested in auditioning, please plan on attending an information meeting during our normal rehearsal period at 1:05 PM, Monday, August 28 in room 2-M109 in building 2. At this meeting you will have an opportunity to sign up for an individual audition and receive important information regarding our group audition and the expectations for the class. The individual audition will be followed by a group audition on Wednesday, August 30 from 5-7 PM in the Mt. SAC Recital Hall. The group audition will involve learning your part on a short a cappella piece and singing a short solo. This all-male ensemble will be looking for strong tenors, basses and beatboxers that can commit to the group for the entire school year, especially during the Spring ICCA competition season so please do not audition if you can only commit to the Fall semester.       Details

      Auditions for the Concert Choir will take place from Monday, August 28 and run through August 31. The audition will be very brief and will involve singing some scales for range followed by singing some notes back from the piano. You will not need to prepare a solo. If you are interested in auditioning for the Concert Choir, please plan on attending an important information meeting on Monday, August 28 at 11:30 AM in room 2-M108 in building 2.       Details
      Vocal Jazz auditions for Frontline (our intermediate level ensemble) and Singcopation (our advanced ensemble) will take place over two days and will involve an individual audition followed by a group audition. The Singcopation audition will take place on Monday, Aug 28 at 4:15 PM in room 2-M108 and the Frontline audition will take place on Tuesday, Aug 29 at 1:15PM in room 2-M109. The group audition for BOTH groups will take place on Thursday, Aug 31 at 3:30 PM in room 2-M108. Audition packets will be available on Monday, August 28 any time after 11:30 PM in room 2-M108 or you may download a pdf on the Mt San Antonio College Vocal Jazz Facebook page.       Auditions for Women’s Ensemble will take place during the first week of classes, Aug 28-31. If you are interested in auditioning for Women’s Ensemble please come to the first rehearsal on Tuesday, Aug 29 at 11:30 AM in room 2-M108. General Information
  •  The preliminary auditions for the Chamber Singers (where students demonstrate vocal range, sight singing skills, and pitch memory) generally take place in May for the following year. 
  • Call-back auditions for students to perform two songs in a quartet situation will be held on Some weeks later in June. 
  • All of the other choral groups are auditioned during the first week of classes in August
  • All students interested in Chamber Singer auditions must contact Professor Bruce Rogers at (909) 274-4334 or at brogers@mtsac.edu at the beginning of May to set up a 15 minute audition time for the preliminary auditions.

Instrumental Ensembles

 Auditions for instrumental ensembles are held during the first week of classes each semester. Please attend the first rehearsal of the ensemble of choice and you will receive audition information at that time. Generally, the audition includes the following:
 
  • A prepared piece (student's choice, which could be an excerpt from a large band or orchestral work, a solo, or an etude)
  • Major scales (as many as possible)
  • Sight reading

Scholarship Information

The instrumental program awards several scholarships to qualified incoming students who commit to performing in instrumental groups. To be considered for a  instrumental music scholarship, contact Prof. Gregory X Whitmore at (909) 274-4623 or at gwhitmore@mtsac.edu for an audition time.
