Rizzly the Grizzly: Mt. SAC's New Mascot Roars to Life
Mt. San Antonio College has ushered in a new era of school spirit with the introduction
of its official mascot, Rizzly the Grizzly. Replacing the long-standing Joe Mountie,
Rizzly embodies the strength, intelligence, and resilience that define the Mt. SAC
community.
The transition to Rizzly was the culmination of a comprehensive, collaborative process initiated by the Mascot Development Task Force. Over four campus-wide surveys, more than 12,000 responses were collected from students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The grizzly bear was chosen not only for its symbolic attributes but also because it is native to the college's namesake mountain, making it a fitting ambassador for the Mounties.
This has been a thoughtful and collaborative process, involving years of consideration and feedback from students, faculty, staff, and alumni
Rizzly made his debut during a series of launch events held last fall, including appearances at the Join-a-Club festivities, a visit before the September board meeting, and a special appearance at the first home football game. Attendees had the opportunity to meet Rizzly and receive free merchandise, further enhancing the excitement surrounding the new mascot.
"This has been a thoughtful and collaborative process, involving years of consideration and feedback from students, faculty, staff, and alumni," said Uyen Mai, Director of Marketing and Communication and chair of the Mascot Development Committee. "The grizzly bear was chosen to reflect the values and energy of our campus. It brings to life our shared ideals of strength, intelligence, and determination."
In addition to the costumed mascot, a collection of new mascot logos and spirit marks were developed and designed.
