Ode To You Award presented to Athletics/Kinesiology!

October 21, 2026 - 08:35 AM
As we enter the fourth quarter of the calendar year, help us in congratulating Athletics/Kinesiology for being the next "Ode to You!" award recipients. Angelic Davis and Joe Carbajal presented the award to Joe Jennum, Dean of Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance, and shared the following comments about
the Athletics/Kinesiology team:
The Purchasing Department proudly nominates Athletics/Kinesiology for the Ode to You Award in recognition of their collaborative spirit, openness to new approaches, and commitment to advancing the College’s goals.
Athletics/Kinesiology has been a valued partner in improving processes while upholding
the standards required of the College. Their team volunteered to pilot a new method
for coordinating travel, working closely with Purchasing to navigate the process and
provide valuable feedback. Their willingness to embrace change and help shape improvements
reflects a commitment that extends beyond their own department.
They also partnered with Purchasing on a large Request for Proposal for apparel and
uniforms, along with numerous software contracts. Throughout these efforts, they have
demonstrated a willingness to work through complex requirements, communicate openly,
and find solutions that support their programs while maintaining the College’s procurement
and contracting standards.
We appreciate the teamwork, trust, and shared sense of purpose they bring to our partnership.
Thank you, Athletics/Kinesiology, for helping us improve how we serve the College
and for demonstrating what we can accomplish when we work together!
About the award: The “Ode To You!” is a department-to-department award that will continue to be passed quarterly. This
new award was inspired by the memory of retired classified employee, Odette Richardson,
who was one of the founding members of the VOICES Committee. During her tenure, Odette
was very active with CSEA, Chapter 262, the Mt. SAC Staff Association, and many other
campus initiatives. Odette’s advice was always to “get involved.” She felt that by
getting involved at work, you enrich not only your own work experience, but you enrich
the experiences and provide benefits to the students, colleagues, and the community
you serve.
