Multi-Criteria Screening


The student selection will be determined using the multi-criteria screening process in accordance with California Education Code 78261 and the California Community College Chancellor's Office directive. A multi-criteria score is determined for each candidate based on the Special Attributes listed below. 

Special Attributes

1. Previous Academic Degrees, diplomas or relevant certificates | Maximum Points = 20

Points Criteria Required Supporting Documentation
20 BA/BS Degree Unofficial transcript from regionally accredited U.S. colleges or universities with degree posted
15  AA/AS Degree – OR – Licensed healthcare worker e.g. LVN, Psychiatric Technician, Radiologic Technician, Paramedic 
  • AA/AS - Unofficial transcript with degree posted. Licensed healthcare worker requires a copy of your current license with your license number and date of expiration.
  • All licenses/certificates must be current to receive points
10 Certificated healthcare worker e.g. CNA, HHA, EMT 
  • Certificated healthcare worker requires a copy of your current California certificate including your certificate number and date of expiration.
  • All licenses/certificates must be current to receive points

 

2. Work or volunteer experience in healthcare | Maximum Points = 20
The term healthcare setting represents a broad array of services and places where healthcare occurs, including but not limited to acute care hospitals, urgent care centers, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, specialized outpatient services (e.g., hemodialysis, dentistry, podiatry, chemotherapy, endoscopy, and pain management clinics), community health center, and outpatient surgery centers. Work letters with less than 1,000 hours but more than 300 hours completed, may be submitted under the volunteer box for review on a case by case basis. 

Points Criteria Required Supporting Documentation
20 Recent work experience with direct human patient care within the past 5 years. Must have verification from human resources or employer verifying the number of hours worked and job title and job duties. 

Current Licensure as LVN, Respiratory Therapist, Physical Therapist assistant, Occupational Therapy Aide: All with work experience greater than 1000 hours.

Phlebotomist, Psychiatric Technician, Current Allied Health Certification such as Paramedic, EMT, CNA, IHSS, Caregiver, Corpsman: All with work experience greater than 1000 hours.

Work: Letter from current/former employer verifying employment. The letter must be on organization letterhead with an original signature and must include the applicant’s name (must match name on application), start date and end date (if applicable), employment status (full-time/part-time), total number of hours worked and examples of job duties related to patient care (i.e. taking vital signs, assisting with ADL’s) (* see note below), job title, and department (if applicable). For IHSS workers, in addition to the letter from the employer, please provide the contract from the CDSS.

*Documents can consist of multiple pages. i.e. the employment letter, job description from manager and/or job description from employers website for specified job.

(Occupations listed are examples only and are not an exhaustive list of certifications/licenses that may be accepted. The admissions committee will make the final determination of acceptance of work experience.) 

12  Recent volunteer experience in a healthcare setting within the past 5 years. Must have verification from organization verifying the number of hours volunteered and volunteer duties.

Relevant health care volunteer experience in a healthcare setting (300 hours within past 5 years) 

Volunteer: Letter from current/former organization verifying volunteer service. The letter must be on organization letterhead with an original signature and must include the applicant’s name (must match name on application), start date and end date (if applicable), total number of hours volunteered, and examples of duties related to patient care (* see note below) (i.e. taking vital signs, assisting with ADL’s)

*Documents can consist of multiple pages. i.e. letter from current/former organization verifying volunteer service, job description from manager and job description from organization's website for specified job.

3. Life experiences or special circumstances | Maximum Points = 4
Applicant may have one or more in this category but maximum points awarded are 4. Documentation will only be required for areas that may apply .

5. Proficiency or advanced level coursework in languages other than English | Maximum Points = 2

Grades

6A. GPA in science prerequisites | Maximum Points = 26
Minimum 2.5 GPA in Science prerequisites (Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology) 

  • Reguired Supporting Documentation:
    • Unofficial transcripts for all courses completed at any and all regionally accredited U.S. colleges and universities, regardless of applicability to nursing requirements need to be uploaded for the application. 
    • Official transcripts will be required for your Counseling Appointment.

6B. GPA in all course work | Maximum Points = 20 
Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for all completed college/ university academic transcripts:

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA in Science prerequisites (Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology) 
  • Reguired Supporting Documentation:
    • Unofficial transcripts for all courses completed at any and all regionally accredited U.S. colleges and universities, regardless of applicability to nursing requirements need to be uploaded for the application. Including Mt. SAC transcript. If you have received transfer credit from a foreign transcript evaluation, you must include this transcript as part of your application.
    • Official transcripts will be required for your Counseling Appointment.

Falsification of any documentation will disqualify applicants from entering the program.
All documents uploaded must include applicants name (must match name on application).
