Student Learning Outcome Assessment Cycle
Outcomes assessment is an ongoing natural and integral part of scholarly work and student services. The purpose of the assessment cycle is to help MTSAC use assessment data in a meaningful, expeditios and systematic way. Assessment data should be helpful in making departmental decisions to improve student experience and performance. The steps of assessment are, Goals, Information, Action. All MTSAC courses will follow the same cycle.
Year 1
Design and align student learning outcomes. Set Goals. Collect data. Focus is on assessing a student learning outcome, departments are encouraged to assess courses each semester. Departments are also encouraged to assess outcomes on Canvas to allow quick dissagregation and analysis.
Year 2
Analyze data, Reflect and Discuss. What did we do well? What can we do better? What action will we take? Departments may consider using faculty inquiry groups and student focus groups in addition to direct data collected. Enter data into Nuventive Improve.
Year 3
Close the loop. Design and align SLO's again re-assess, collect data.
Year 4
Reflect and discuss, Plan and Improve. How did changes effect student learning? Your course is probably coming up for curriculm review and now you have at least 2 sets of data and analysis to help shape decisions.
Curriculum Review
Every 5th year this work will contribute to the curriculum review process. Each course could have 3 to 6 sets of data that will help direct decisions.
