My Redinger research involved a study of the controls of cyclicity in the Monterey Formation along the coastline of Point Dume. I learned that this part of the formation is composed of rhythmically bedded decimeter-scale pairs of two sedimentary fine-grained facies. This formation is also the major source rock for California’s petroleum reserves and is important for understanding the impact of geologically rapid organic carbon burial on global climate. I am very pleased to have completed preliminary technical analysis and findings. This research offered me a great opportunity to take a closer look at the process of scientific research. It also has helped me better prepare toward a career teaching young students Earth Science. I’m planning to earn a degree in Geology, along with a teaching credential from the University of California, Long Beach. I will transfer to the university this fall.
