Mt. SAC Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship
The Mt. SAC Apprenticeship provides a formal educational pathway (course work) paired with on-the-job training at the Mt. SAC Child Development Center. Students who are employed at the Mt. SAC Child Development Center and enrolled in a minimum of 6 units (each semester) leading towards the completion of Child Development AS or Child Development AS-T.
Students engage in supportive mentoring, training, coaching and professional development which is essential for preparing emerging professionals for the early childhood workforce. Students develop crucial workplace competencies through systematic evaluation regarding family engagement, early classroom environments, health and safety, child nutrition, documentation and assessment, special needs and inclusion, effective communication and professionalism.

Who qualifies to be an Apprentice?

- Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- 16 years of age or older
- Eligible to work in the U.S.*
- Pass California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Fingerprint Background Check (LiveScan)
- A minimum grade point average of 2.5
- To qualify for the Pre-Apprenticeship a person must have less then 12 of the core Child Development units.
- To qualify for the Apprenticeship a person must have completed the 12 core units of Child Development with a "C" or better (CHLD 1, 5, 6, 11).
- Documentation of influenza, (TDap) pertussis, Measles immunization, and TB clearance.
