Prospective Family

Thank you for considering the Mt. San Antonio College Child Development Center and Laboratory School.   The Child Development Center is a nationally accredited facility (NAEYC) where Mt. SAC students, staff, and members of the surrounding communities may apply for early care and educational services.  The Child Development Center provides a high quality, evidence based, and developmentally appropriate program to enhance children’s educational, emotional, physical, and social development needs.  Research shows that high-quality early education provides the foundation that truly prepares children for school success and a life-long love of learning.

The Center serves children between the ages of 3 months to 5 years old.  Once enrolled in the program, we practice an Open Door Policy.  We warmly welcome and invite parents to participate in their child’s classroom by volunteering or simply observing.  It is our intention to work closely with every family and attempt to meet the educational needs of each child.  Children attend a minimum of 20 hours per week, except those children in the infant program who are younger than 4 months of age who may require a more individualized schedule.

    • Admission

Classroom spaces are filled based on program enrollment priorities and vacancies. When space is not available, a waiting list is maintained on a semester-by-semester basis. As space becomes available, families on the waitlist are contacted. Families who wish to keep their children on the waitlist reapply each semester/term. Accepted families will be notified by phone and or email.

Once accepted, the registration, insurance fees, and 4 weeks advance tuition are due.  Assistance in paying fees associated with enrollment is available.  Visit the tuition assistance area for additional information.

      Funding Sources for Tuition Assistance:

      State Preschool Program Funding

A state preschool program is available for eligible parents of 3 and 4 year-old children.  Children receiving Child Protective Services/or at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation have 1st priority, next priority is given to 4 year-olds, and eligible children with exceptional needs will be selected before eligible peers. A minimum monthly fee may apply.  If applicable, the fees are based on monthly income and family size.

      General Childcare Funding

This program is available for eligible parents for children 3 months to age 3.  Children receiving Child Protective Services/or at risk of abuse, neglect have priority.  A minimum monthly fee may apply.  If applicable, the fees are based on monthly income and family size.

      Child Care Access Grant Funding

Parents who receive or are eligible for a Pell grant and are attending Mt. SAC as part of a recognized course of study may qualify for this program.  Grant assistance requires the pursuit of a certificate, degree or transfer.

      Alternative Payments/CALWORKS

The Center accepts funding from outside sources (i.e.: CalWORKS).

    • Classroom Ratios

      Teacher to Child Ratio

      Infant/Toddler Section

The Infant ratio of qualified adult to child is 1:3, meaning 1 Teacher to every 3 Infants. The Young Toddler classroom ratio is 1:4 and the Older Toddler classroom is 1:5. The Child Development Center, as a CDE contractor, may also apply Title 5 ratios and exemptions where applicable.

      Preschool section

The preschool ratio of qualified adult to child ratio is 1:8, meaning 1 teacher to every 8 preschoolers.  Activities outside of the Center i.e. field trips, require greater adult to child supervision.  In an effort to maintain the same level of safety, we increase our adult-child ratios by adding teacher aides and parent volunteers.

If a child’s challenging behavior requires a 1 to 1 ratio with teachers or otherwise significantly disrupts the program/classroom, the Center reserves the right to contact the parent to intervene and/or assist staff.
