Umoja Courses
Umoja Courses are credit-bearing, transferable, or degree-applicable courses that
integrate Umoja-aligned pedagogy, cultural relevance, and student-centered practices
designed to support the academic excellence, leadership development, and self-actualization
of Black/African American students. Umoja Courses are offered in two formats: Umoja-Dedicated Courses, which are intentionally designed for Umoja student cohorts and taught by faculty
who have completed the Umoja Summer Learning Institute (SLI) or approved Umoja training,
and Umoja-Supported Courses, which are open to the general student population and taught by Umoja-trained faculty
who integrate culturally responsive and Umoja-centered practices into their instruction.
Through coursework, programs, field trips, conferences, and other learning experiences,
Umoja Courses create culturally affirming spaces that foster academic achievement,
identity development, career growth, and community connection.
