Academic Counseling
Academic counseling is a cornerstone of the Umoja Community program, providing students
with personalized guidance, mentorship, and support throughout their Mt. SAC journey.
Umoja’s dedicated counselor works closely with students to develop educational plans,
explore majors and career pathways, navigate transfer requirements, and connect students
with valuable campus resources and opportunities that support their academic and personal
success.
Within Umoja, counseling goes beyond course selection. Students receive culturally
responsive support from a trusted mentor who understands the unique experiences, challenges,
and strengths of the communities Umoja serves. Whether discussing transfer goals,
financial aid and scholarships, academic progress, or life challenges, Umoja counseling
creates a supportive environment where students are empowered to thrive, build confidence,
and successfully navigate higher education.
