The department of Professional & Organizational Development (POD) is dedicated to fostering growth in Mt. San Antonio College employees. Guided by Mt. SAC's mission, values, and shared governance, POD offers a variety of programs, resources, and services. This includes improving the performance of employee(s), teams, departments, and divisions.
Professional Development is the continuous process of acquiring new knowledge and skills that relate to one’s profession, job responsibilities, work environment, health and wellbeing. It plays a key role in maintaining trained, informed, and motivated employees, across all job classifications. POD encourages its employees to participate in professional development activities and provides a number of resources through which these activities may be completed. The objectives of professional development are to help employees enhance their job skills, obtain job-related knowledge and information, foster personal growth, increase productivity and efficiency, and/or prepare for higher-level positions.
Organizational Development is a systemwide process of data collection, diagnosis, action planning, intervention, and evaluation aimed at (1) enhancing congruence among organizational structure, process, strategy, people, and culture; (2) developing new and creative organizational solutions; and (3) developing the organization’s self renewing capacity. It occurs through the collaboration of organizational members working together. POD collaborates with leaders and key stakeholders to understand the vision, objectives, goals, and challenges and identifies ways to improve outcomes.
Employee Engagement is comprised of three components: Attitude, behavior, and outcomes. Employee engagement is the emotional commitment the employee has to Mt. SAC’s goals and values. Outcomes may include lower accident rates, higher productivity, fewer conflicts, increased innovation, reduced absenteeism, reduced sickness rates. There is a direct correlation between engaged employees and job satisfaction, organizational commitment, job involvement and feelings of empowerment. POD strives to unlock people’s potential at work and build on the commitment, energy and desire to do a good job through programs and services such as training and development, coaching, rewards and recognition, SanFACC mentor program, shared governance, and new employee orientations.
