The Computer Lab in the Writing Center
Our computers feature word processing and spreadsheet software, internet research capability, and access to library databases. We also have a variety of interactive software to help students with grammar, essay development, and effective argumentation. Students can work with these programs on a self-study basis or at the direction of a Writing Center staff member. Software titles available in the Writing Center's computer lab include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; AZAR Black and AZAR Blue; Writer's Resources; and Adobe Acrobat.
The computers in the lab are reserved for Mt. SAC students using specific Writing Center services. This means that a student will be able to use a computer if he/she is seeing a tutor, working on a DLA or other grammar software, or attending a workshop. Here are the specific policy changes:
- Students must use one of the services of the Center (tutoring, directed learning activities/DLAs, grammar software, workshops) in order to use the computer lab in the Writing Center.
- Students may use the computer lab for an unlimited amount of time on the day they are scheduled for a specific Writing Center service.
- Students with scheduled tutoring appointments can use the lab the week before, the week of, and after the week during which they have an appointment scheduled.
- Students cannot use the Writing Center solely for the purpose of printing assignments.
Please read through our Practices and Procedures of the Writing Center, including the Computer Lab if you have any questions.
