Who's Eligible

  • First-time college students that have never attended any college. *Dual/concurrent enrollment and special admits exempt
  • California residents or AB540 eligible
  • Apply for Financial Aid each year (FAFSA or CA Dream Act)
  • Must have a major of study selected on their educational plan. *Certificates under 16 units and undecided majors are not eligible
    • 1Establishing Eligibility: Prospective New Students
      • Submit a Summer Mt. SAC College Application
        *Students MUST select a major/Undecided is not eligible
      • Apply and participate in the Summer Bridge Program or STEP Into College Program in the Summer term as your first-college experience.
      • Complete the 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or CA Dream Act (CADA).
        *This is a MANDATORY state requirement of all CA Promise Programs. Applicants that are not awarded financial aid due to higher incomes, will still receive the financial benefits of Promise+Plus.
      • Start college at Mt. SAC in the Summer term through either the Summer Bridge or STEP Into College program.
      • Register for an English and/or Math course in the Fall semester.
       
      Missed out on participating this Summer 2021 in Summer Bridge or STEP Into College Program?
       
      That's okay! Participate this Fall 2021 semester in any of the COUN 1 Introduction to College courses and you may be eligible to receive Promise+Plus benefits starting Winter 2022! Make sure you meet eligibility criteria listed at the top of this webpage, complete the college enrollment steps, and register a Fall 2021 COUN 1 Introduction to College course. 
       
    • 2Maintaining Eligibility: Current Promise Students
      • Students must complete all the eligibility requirements listed below within the first-year of college to receive a second year of benefits.
      • Remain enrolled in 12 units for full time benefits or 6-11.5 units for part time benefits in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021
      • Complete two of the following courses between Fall 2020, Winter 2020, and Spring 2021: English and/or Math. *Some exceptions available for qualifying certificate programs
      • Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
      • Attend one Promise+Plus approved Student Success Workshops and/or Event each semester AND make one counseling appointment each semester
      • Second-year college students must continue to meet the above listed requirements in their second year of college for continued benefits.
