Extreme Heat Warning in Effect
An Extreme Heat Warning will be in effect from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, through
8:00 p.m. Friday, August 28.
The National Weather Service predicts that temperatures in the San Gabriel Valley
could reach as high as 112°F this week. All students, faculty, and staff are strongly
encouraged to take extra precautions while on campus. Please follow the guidance below
to help protect yourself and others from heat-related illness:

Drink plenty of water.

Stay indoors or in an air-conditioned environment whenever possible.

Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

Reschedule strenuous outdoor activities for the early morning or evening, when possible.

Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
-
Take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas when working outdoors.
-
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Move anyone experiencing a heat-related illness to a cool, shaded location and seek
assistance. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 911 immediately.
STAY HYDRATED
Drink water frequently throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. Water
bottle-filling stations are available throughout campus. To find the nearest station:

3. Select Bottle Filling Stations.
|
|
Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it regularly throughout the day.
STAY COOL
Get out of the sun and take breaks indoors whenever possible. Indoor lounge and gathering
spaces are available at the following locations:

LIMIT HEAT EXPOSURE
- Reduce strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
- Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
- Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing when possible.
- Use sunscreen and other sun protection when outdoors.
- Do not wait until you feel overheated to take a break.
KNOW THE SIGNS OF HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS
Seek assistance immediately if you or someone nearby experiences symptoms of heat-related
illness:

Heavy sweating
-
Headache or dizziness
-
Nausea
-
Weakness or fatigue
-
Muscle cramps
-
Confusion or disorientation
Heat-related illness can become serious quickly. If you or someone around you develops
concerning symptoms, move to a cooler location and seek appropriate assistance.
Please plan accordingly, stay hydrated, and use extra caution during periods of high
heat.
