Mt. SAC Police to Begin Using Body-Worn Cameras and Conducted Energy Devices

August 17, 2026 - 01:12 PM

Public Safety Announcement

Dear Mt. SAC Community,

The safety and well-being of our students, employees, and community is our highest priority. As part of the Mt. SAC Police and Campus Safety Department's ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and professional policing, sworn officers have completed training and are now equipped with body-worn cameras and conducted energy devices (commonly known as Tasers).

Body-worn cameras help document law enforcement interactions and promote transparency and accountability. They also support investigations, training, and the fair resolution of incidents.

Tasers provide officers with an additional response option in situations involving an immediate threat of harm. When appropriate, they may help officers safely resolve dangerous situations while reducing the risk of injury to community members and officers.

The implementation of body-worn cameras and conducted energy devices follows comprehensive training, certification, and the adoption of department policies consistent with California law and recognized law enforcement standards. Police officers will use these tools only in accordance with those policies and their training.

These additions reflect the Police and Campus Safety Department's commitment to providing professional, effective, and accountable public safety services while fostering a safe, welcoming, and respectful learning and working environment for everyone at Mt. SAC.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting a safe campus community.
