2019 The Great Staff Retreat

The Retreat provides classified employees inspiration for professional growth, by fostering an environment where employees have time away from their jobs, with full compensation, to communicate ideas and issues with fellow colleagues.

When?

Retreat: May 1 - 3, 2019
Application must be completed by March 6, 2019.

Where?

UCLA Conference Center, Lake Arrowhead

Who?

Any classified CSEA 262 or 651, or Confidential employee may apply.  Approximately 36 employees will be selected, emphasizing a diversity in gender, units, classifications, and years of service.  Employees that have previously attended are encouraged to apply, however, priority will be given to first-time attendees.

Why Great Staff?

The Great Staff Retreat is a staff development opportunity that provides employees with inspiration and professional growth. The Retreat has been adopted by  the College because  it provides  an opportunity to employees for time away from their jobs, with full compensation, to communicate ideas and issues with other employees facing similar job situations.

What is the purpose?

The Great Staff Retreat encourages employees to examine and communicate problems faced in their working environment. Since management is not  in attendance, employees are  encouraged  to develop realistic and usable solutions to discussed issues. The Great Staff Retreat facilitators will not disclose any details of the topics discussed so employees are encouraged to communicate openly and freely, without judgment. The Retreat is designed to create dialogue on areas identified by classified staff —employee engagement and motivation, team building, leadership, effective communication, and a better understanding of other job roles.

What will the schedule be?

Each day of the Retreat will have large group sessions to schedule the day’s program, small “breakout” session where the real work is done, and small group discussion sessions where ideas are communicated and solutions created. The days will include relaxation breaks, as well as meal breaks, but each day is full of work activities.

What are the accommodations?

The UCLA Conference Center in Lake Arrowhead is the perfect location. The Center boasts excellent accommodations featuring two-bedroom condolets with separate bathrooms. The Center provides many amenities including great food, snacks, and impeccable service.

Bus transportation will be provided to and from the Center. Participants are expected to stay on grounds during the entire retreat.

**Selected employees will be asked to contribute $20 for beverages**
