Leading For Equity Colson Whitehead Series

On May 8, the campus community will come together for a lecture by Colson Whitehead, author of six novels, including The Underground Railroad for which he won the 2016 National Book Award for Fiction and the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. In 2002, he received a MacArthur Fellowship ("Genius Grant").Colson Whitehead will discuss the social and political implications of The Underground Railroad, a fictionalized reimagining of the historical journey many made to escape slavery. 

A series of professional development learning activities will frame this event, and a cohort of students, staff, and faculty will read The Underground Railroad and discuss implications of the book on our current work with students. A copy of The Underground Railroad is available to the first 100 college employees who register for the lecture event. Deadline for book pick-up is May 4, 2018.  Books can be picked up at the POD office in 6-140.

Students, staff, and faculty are welcome for these small and welcoming peer-facilitated group discussions about Colson Whitehead's book The Underground Railroad. Discussion questions will address content in the book as well as themes in the book that are relevant to our current campus issues, climate, and policies.
