Transferfest presents options, resources for students

March 05, 2025 - 12:48 AM
Mt. SAC students who have goals of their next university, state school, or private college should plan to attend Transferfest on March 18 from 2-7:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Student Center.
Mounties who recently completed their application or will be applying for transfer during the 2025 Spring Semester can gather information at various workshops at the event, including sessions dedicated to what happens next, financial aid at four-year institutions, a BIPOC transfer experience, and the Mt. SAC Scholarship program.
Future transfer students can learn about transfer prep programs at Mt. SAC, the differences between majors and careers, support programs elsewhere, and more.
“Apart from workshops, we will also be having a resource fair with many of our campus programs and resources,” says Perla Partida, a transfer specialist at the Transfer Center. “We will have different campuses come and inform students about their school, like Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Fullerton, UCLA, and UCLA’s Center for Community College Partnerships.”
These schools have opportunities to make big impressions on students still deciding.
“I do not know where I am going as of yet,” says Mt. SAC student Chris Beltran, who is studying business. “I did apply to eight universities: four UC schools and four CSUs. I have applied to Merced, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, and Riverside for the UC schools. The CSUs included Pomona, L.A., Long Beach, and Fullerton. I have heard back from two schools, L.A. and Long Beach, saying they would like to take me. I am unsure where to go until I hear from all the schools.
“I am basing my decisions on scholarships offered to attend their school, living/dorm situation, and safety/environment at these campuses, which will determine my choice.”
In addition to the transfer information, students can enjoy live music from a DJ, free dinner if registered beforehand, and photo opportunities. But Beltran is looking forward to the event’s keynote speaker: Urel Martinez, Chief Revenue Officer for the Los Angeles Galaxy and Mt. SAC alumnus.
“As a business major, I would love to get some great pointers from him,” Beltran says. “I am also looking forward to other students I could network with to hear about their college journey and get to their transfer point. It will be great to hear that their hard work has paid off and that I am not alone in my journey.”

Everyone is encouraged to attend because, “they will learn so much about the transfer process by attending the various workshops whether they are a student, a professor, an administrator, or even a friend or parent,” Partida says. “They will have a great time, and we cannot wait to see them on March 18!”
