Six Paralympics Swimming World Records Set at Mt. SAC Aquatics Complex

Six world records were set during the 2026 Para Pan Pacific Championships at the Mt. SAC Aquatics Complex on Aug. 28-30.

Team USA’s Katie Kubiak set the new world record in the women’s S5 50 butterfly, finishing in 37.21 seconds. At the end of the three-day meet, Kubiak also had collected six American records. Leanne Smith completed the S3 100 freestyle in 1:26.17 to set another world record for Team USA.

In the women's SB4 100 breaststroke, 18-year-old Brazilian swimmer Alessandra Oliveira Dos Santos reset her own world record, finishing in 1:40.63. In the men’s 100 breaststroke, Japan's Naohide Yamaguchi shaved down his own SB14 world record from 1:02.53 to 1:02.38.

In the men’s S11 100 meter backstroke, Evan Wilkerson of Team USA set the world record in the morning prelims at 1:04.84 and then broke it again in the evening with a time of 1:02.62.

The Para Pan Pacific Championships is an international para swimming competition founded in 2011 by four charter nations — Australia, Canada, Japan, and the United States. The 2026 Para Pan Pacific Championships was the first major international meet hosted in California in this qualification window for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games, which are scheduled for Aug. 15-27, 2028, in Los Angeles.
