Name: Emily Versace Title: Counselor

Dear Colleagues,
My name is Emily Versace. I have been a full-time counselor here at Mt. SAC since 2015. As a counselor I regularly hear from students about both the struggles they are facing, and the amazing things they are doing to accomplish their goals. In my work as a counselor at Mt. SAC and at other campuses, I have had opportunities to work in specialty counseling areas including, Title V, Nursing, STEM, and Career Education. This has given me the chance to work with faculty in multiple disciplines and understand the impact of policies and multiple other factors on students and their goals. I love working across disciplines to best meet the needs of students.

I would like to share some of the things I’ve been involved in here at Mt. SAC. I am a member of the Faculty Professional Development Council and have been involved in the Guided Pathways team since its inception. For two years I taught “Training from the Back of the Room” in POD which teaches and utilized brain-based teaching methods. After the pandemic began, I created a Zoom workshop called “Creating Dynamic Lectures” which took many of the concepts and activities from “Training from the Back of the Room” and applied them to a Zoom environment. The core motivation of both of these workshops is equity and creating class environments that engage and support our diverse student population.

It has been an honor to serve as a Senator-at-Large for the past two years. Being on the Executive Board has increased my understanding of Mt. SAC and how it functions. I have been grateful to have a seat at the table in looking at policies that affect students and faculty. I strive to center my efforts on improving equity for students and on working with my colleagues from across campus to achieve our shared goals.

It has been a joy to work at Mt. SAC. I am constantly impressed and inspired by the amazing work I see faculty doing. It is gratifying to be a part of positive change. This is why I hope to continue to serve you for the next two years in the role of senator-at-large. Thank you for considering me for this position.

Sincerely,
Emily Versace
