Brigette Marlo Moran
Hello, my name is Brigette Marlo Moran and I am deeply grateful to be a part of the First Peoples Native Center team. It fills my heart to walk this path of healing and learning in/with this opportunity that allows me to deepen my connection with Mother Earth.
My roots trace back to the Mexica and Apache tribes, and over the past two years, I have been rediscovering and reconnecting with my culture, my ancestors, and the land that has always held me. As a former foster youth, my journey of education has been both a pursuit of a better quality life and an unfolding path of decolonization–a reclaiming of my mind, body, and spirit. In the quiet moments of life I find happiness in listening to jazz, hiking, reading, and finding botanical gardens to visit. As an Animal Science major, I’ve always had a passion for the preservation work of animal life and nature. Taking care of nearby animals and immersing myself in nature always grounded me while growing up in the foster system. From a young age, I was able to learn how to be resourceful and honor what the land has to offer. Although I didn’t have a good quality life growing up, it struck something inside me: to take care of Mother Earth as she has always cared for me.
I'm very fortunate to be forming authentic bonds within this community, allowing me to heal from generational trauma by connecting to my roots. For my career aspirations, I hope to help create a lasting, positive impact for both the animals and the people who rely on and care for the land. I look forward to creating everlasting relationships with more of you as we share our stories and grow together as a community.
