Embedding Sustainability into Your Curriculum

Winter Semester 2024

The next “Embedding Sustainability Into Your Curriculum” training will be offered in Winter 2024. Please consider becoming part of the growing number of faculty who earn “leaf” designation for courses on the course schedule. You can earn up to 16 hours of PGI/6 PGH! Training will be offered via Zoom and will include synchronous and asynchronous components as well as one in-person meeting. Please see the dates below and register on the POD Connect calendar. Please contact Tania Anders ( tanders1@mtsac.edu) with questions you might have. 

4 synchronous Zoom sessions as follows:

  • Friday, January 19th from 10 AM-12 PM
  • Friday, January 26th from 10 AM-12 PM
  • Friday, February 2nd from10 AM-12 PM
  • Friday, February 9th from 10 AM-12 PM

In-person

  • Wednesday, February 21st from 3:30 PM- 5:30 PM.

Mt. SAC Sustainability Video and Website

Professors, please share this Mt. SAC Sustainability Video with your students to introduce them to Sustainability at Mt. SAC. This short video will provide students with an overview of what sustainability is, and how they may pursue sustainability in their own academic and professional careers.

The Mt. SAC Sustainability website is also a great place to get information on all things sustainability at Mt.SAC.

Mountie Fresh Food Pantry

2nd and 4th week of the month Building 67A-103

Let's make sure our students have access to a wholesome meal. The Mountie Fresh Food Pantry can play a crucial role in ensuring that every student feels the warmth of the holiday season. The Food Pantry operates the 2nd and 4th week of the month and serves students impacted by food insecurity, by providing access to food and basic necessities and referrals to campus and community-based resources, thereby maximizing student success.   • Metrolink provides FREE rides for students anywhere in California. The Student Adventure Pass makes it easier to connect to opportunities and experiences throughout SoCal, by train for free.
  • The GoPass is an expanded version of the Class Pass. It allows Mt. SAC students to ride public transit for free, whether it's for school, work or fun.
  • Are you a resident of the San Gabriel Valley? Discover the joys of riding an e-bike! Sign up with GoSGV for access to a deeply discounted e-bike!

Sustainability Spotlight

Mt. SAC receives the Board of Governors’ Excellence in Sustainability and Energy Innovative Project Award for the new Student Center

The California Community College Board of Governors Energy & Sustainability Program has awarded Mt. SAC with an ‘Excellence in Energy & Sustainability Innovative Project Award’ for the Student Center. This award recognizes a district or campus that implemented a project in the past year that depicts exemplary use and implementation of innovative technologies and progressive practices. The award was accepted by President Martha Garcia, Trustee Laura Santos, and Eera Babtiwale on behalf of Mt. SAC.

Mt. SAC Greenzone Certification Recap

Mt. SAC is the first Greenzone Certified Community College in the nation! Mt. SAC’s Grounds crew now uses zero-emission, low-noise electric equipment, and people-powered tools to keep our campus beautiful and our air clean. Mt. SAC Climate Action Plan (CAP) 2023

Mt. SAC’s Climate Action Planning will provide an update to Mt.SAC’s first CAP published in 2018. The updated CAP will provide an overview of the college’s current carbon footprint, present strategies for reducing emissions, summarize our accomplishments to date, and set new goals for CAP 2023. Areas of focus include Energy, Transportation, Waste, Water, Curriculum, Institutionalization, Professional Development, and Community Outreach.
