An Ha

Hello everyone! My name is An, and I am running for Associated Students President at Mt. San Antonio College. I’m studying Business Administration, and I hope to transfer to a four-year university in Northern California. My career aspirations are to pursue a path in UI/UX design after completing my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and assist emerging first-generation college students to receive a deserving and meaningful education.
As an immigrant and first-generation college student, my upbringing has taught me to be resourceful, inquisitive, and understand people’s situations. It motivated me to seek opportunities that are important to me here at Mt. SAC. I believe that education is more than what you can learn in a classroom. So I find access to sit on decision-making committees to support initiatives like the Basic Needs Food Pantry and receive experiential learning in budget meetings. I also serve as your Student Services Senator in student government to further expand my collaboration experience with different student leaders and leaders in prestigious positions. I am ambitious to strive for my goals and help others achieve theirs.
I am grateful for the opportunity to volunteer and give back to the community by helping with my college experiences. It has directly impacted my roles on campus as a student advocate and expanded my support network with faculty and staff.
For the next academic year, one of my goals is to advocate a study lounge for student parents in the new Student Life Center. Our campus serves a beautiful population of students from various demographics. Roughly 40% of student parents attend community colleges nationally. The Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice note that parenting students are experiencing an “ongoing, energy- and time-consuming activity that often must take precedence over education considerations.” In addition to financial demands like expensive childcare and basic needs, student parents must juggle daily with these insecurities. I hope to relieve these stressors by providing a safe study lounge that offers academic and basic needs support, a space to connect with other student parents, and a separate child-friendly playground.
Thank you for your consideration!
