Celebrate National Poetry Month with the Writing Center's Poetry Contest and Open Mic Event!

 

1. April is National Poetry Month, and we're inviting all Mt. SAC students to share their voice! Submit an original poem in any form (up to 40 lines) for a chance to win. Also, every submitter will have the opportunity to be featured in the Writing Center's brand-new Student Literary Journal, debuting this Spring!

 

Choose your category:

-Poetry of Resistance: Verse that challenges, protests, and speaks truth to power

-Poetry of Identity: Words that explore who you are, where you come from, and what makes you you

-Poetry of Place: Writing that breathes life into the spaces, landscapes, and corners of the world that shaped you

 

All submission are due by Thursday, April 30th. Winners will be announced via email to collect their prize within 1-2 weeks after contest closes.

 

2. We will also be hosting an Open Mic on Tuesday, April 28th from 1-3pm @ The Writing Center (26B-1561)

 

Whether you're a seasoned poet or simply love the written word, this event is for you! Join us in celebrating the poets of Mt. SAC (students, staff, and faculty alike) for an afternoon of spoken word and community. Take the mic and share an original poem, read your favorite poem, or simply pull up a chair and enjoy the prose and verse. No experience is necessary; all are welcome! Expect snacks, fun prizes, and good company.
