Constitution Day Lecture Series and Voter Registration(9/17 11-1:30 @ Summit Events Center)

September 05, 2025 - 11:26 AM

The Geography and Political Science Department in Collaboration with Associated Students Presents:

9th Annual Constitution Day Lecture Series

Join us on Wednesday, September 17th, in the Summit Events Center for an engaging Constitution Day Lecture Series. From 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, enjoy music, free food, and the opportunity to register to vote! The lecture series itself will run from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, and will focus on Birthright Citizenship. The topic has been in the spotlight of national debate as campaigns and courts test the scope of the Fourteenth Amendment and, with it, who counts as American. Professors from History, Political Science, Communications, and World Languages examine the Citizenship Clause’s constitutional roots, the broad significance of this protection for democratic inclusion, comparative perspectives, how political narratives and media framing shape public understanding, and the issues now before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Highlights include:

  • Forensics Team Debate: Should the United States maintain unconditional birthright citizenship under the Fourteenth Amendment?
  • Mini Lectures from Mt. SAC Professors: Danny Cantrell, Kim Earhart, Allie Frickert, Kelly Rivera, Lizbet Sanchez, and Curtis Simon.

Location: Summit Events Center, 3rd Floor of the Student Center (Building 410)

Date: Wednesday, September 17th

Time: 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM

Lecture Series: 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM

This event is free and open to all. Don’t miss this chance to deepen your understanding of important constitutional issues!
