REAL ID Requirement for Domestic Air Travel – Effective May 7, 2025
April 29, 2025 - 05:02 PM
Dear Campus Community,
Starting Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will begin enforcing the REAL ID requirement at airport security checkpoints nationwide.
A Real ID may be identified by a star or other REAL ID symbol in the corner of the license.
Beginning on this date, standard state-issued driver’s licenses or ID cards that are not REAL ID-compliant will no longer be accepted for domestic air travel.
To board a domestic flight, all travelers aged 18 and older—including TSA PreCheck members—must present one of the following:
- A REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or ID card (look for a star or other REAL ID symbol on the card)
- A valid U.S. passport
- Another TSA-approved form of identification
Travelers without a REAL ID-compliant license or an acceptable alternative may face delays, additional screening, or be denied entry at security checkpoints.
A reminder about this requirement is also posted in the Chrome River portal under the announcements section.
We encourage all faculty, staff, and students planning to fly domestically to check their ID now and update it if needed. For more details, please visit: https://www.dhs.gov/real-id
