Lunar New Year Celebrated with Taiko Drumming

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Mt. SAC's International Students Program brought
in a Taiko Drumming group to perform for students.
The group used several different percussion instruments, as well flutes, as seen in these short clips.
Known both as Lunar or Asian New Year, the event brought the Japanese drum style
to students.
Featuring dynamic tempo changes, from hard and fast drumming, to slower and more atmospheric rhythms, the drummers pound both the skin of the instrument as well as the side of the drum.
The student audience was treated to Asian food and drink during the noon performance.
Five students were brought from the audience to learn this ancient drum style that dates back 1,500 years.
