New Student Center Gets Topped Out

Board and President sign the final beam

Final beam is lifted onto structureCollege officials and VIPs gathered today for the Topping Out of the new Student Center construction. Topping Out is a term used in building construction when the primary structure of a building is complete. The new Student Center is on track to be open in Spring 2023.

Jay Chen“It’s a long-awaited multi-story space for our students to study, meet, hang out, eat and simply be students,” said Mt. SAC Board of Trustees President Jay Chen. "It will also provide important meeting and event space for the broader community.”

Judy Chen Haggerty laughs as Laura Santos signs beamBesides speeches and a lunch, attendees got to sign a structure beam to have their names permanently as part of the building. The beam was then lifted and added to the top of the new structure.

The new Student Center will be 100,000 square feet and have three floors, with spaces for students to relax, study, come together, engage in activities, and eat a meal. Student government and clubs will have offices and space, and there will be event spaces for up to 900 people as well.Campus leaders sign final beam
