New Student Center Gets Topped Out

December 01, 2021 - 04:32 PM
College officials and VIPs gathered today for the Topping Out of the new Student Center
construction. Topping Out is a term used in building construction when the primary
structure of a building is complete. The new Student Center is on track to be open
in Spring 2023.
“It’s a long-awaited multi-story space for our students to study, meet, hang out, eat and simply be students,” said Mt. SAC Board of Trustees President Jay Chen. "It will also provide important meeting and event space for the broader community.”
Besides speeches and a lunch, attendees got to sign a structure beam to have their
names permanently as part of the building. The beam was then lifted and added to the
top of the new structure.
The new Student Center will be 100,000 square feet and have three floors, with spaces
for students to relax, study, come together, engage in activities, and eat a meal.
Student government and clubs will have offices and space, and there will be event
spaces for up to 900 people as well.
