The spirit of giving is in full swing in our community. The parents club of Walnut
Unified School District have donated 250 hygiene kits for Mt. SAC students with basic
needs.
According to Erika Hsu,President of the Walnut El Community Club, the "nonprofit parent organization at Walnut Elementary School, "Walnut El Community Club", organizes a "Night of Giving" each year in November as a way for our students and families to give back to the community. However, since we were not able to congregate this year, we decided to do a "Week of Giving" and have families participate from home for a week rather than just one night. We collected 247 hygiene kits, as well as some blankets and toilet paper. "
This is the second year in a row they have donated hygiene kits to Mt. SAC students,
but the fourth year they have held their donation fundraiser.
"So far we have made blankets for City of Hope, made blankets and collected baby items for foster children through Serenity, Inc, said Hsu. We were especially interested in partnering with Mt. SAC's Basic Needs and giving back locally, right here in Walnut."
The donation was part of their their community service project.Mt. SAC’s community
Basic Needs committee members worked with the Walnut El Community Club to make it happen. The hygiene kits were passed out at the
last Food Pantry of the year to students in need.
