October is Disability Awareness Month

The exhbitOctober is Disability Awareness Month and Mt. SAC has a number of activities and an informative exhibit in the Student Life Building (9B) all month long. The exhibit chronicles the history and achievements of disabled individuals throughout history.

Raul Fuentes, a student employee at the Information Center, studied the exhibit across from his workspace. “It’s great to know the history of disability and keep conscious of it in the future,” said Fuentes.

 

 

 

Ann looks at exhibit

The exhibit displays the achievements of disabled individuals, as well as the trials and tribulations they faced, from the Renaissance era all the way to current day.

Throughout the display boards, “you see a progression towards self-advocacy, participation, and a developing culture,” remarked student Ann Tran.

This exhibit is just one of a number of events planned for Disability Awareness Month.

 Oct. 22, 10am-1pm between Bldg. 9C and 10 – Visit the booth during the Wellness Fair and take part in 5-minute guided stretches.

 Oct. 28, 12pm-2pm at Ragan Room (9B) – Transfer Workshop. ACCESS counselors will be on site.

Oct. 12, 11am-2pm at Bldg. 6 (Room 160) – Taco Tuesday & Movie. Grab lunch from Taco Nazo and watch “The Upside”.
