Fall 2021 Guide – Navigating around Construction

Campus map

August 20, 2021 - 05:01 PM

Construction on campusStudents returning to campus for the Fall 2021 semester will find a very different campus from the one they were used to, as numerous construction projects around campus have created detours students will need to follow to get to class and their activities. However, the online campus map  and map in the Mountie App should make it easier to get to their destination. The map is constantly kept updated and has the latest construction information.

In addition to the athletics projects on the south side of Temple Ave., the campus has much more construction throughout its main campus on the north side, as well. When the campus was last open, the upcoming Student Center had already begun construction, but now the Transit Center, the Temple Ave. Green Corridor project and others are underway as well.

Construction on parking structure“We apologize for the inconvenience,” said Mt. SAC Project Administrator and Architect Alan Kinkaid, “but with the Pandemic and decreased activity on campus, this was really the perfect time to start these projects to have as little impact as possible on the students. These projects will greatly enhance the student experience at Mt. SAC with a large amount of new parking, and state-of-the-art facilities for the students to use.”

Overpass to new Transit Center from new parking structure

Parking areas will have minimal impact as the semester starts. In fact, students will find a completely new parking structure available to them, located on the southwestern corner of Temple Ave. and Bonita Dr. The elevators to that structure may not be in operation, so students requiring accessibility should limit themselves to the ground floor for the time being.

Students needing to travel from one side of the campus to the other can find an almost straight line following what is known as "Miracle Mile", from building 9B east across campus and over to the pedestrian bridge that overpasses Bonita Dr.  Any other route south of that will likely be detoured at some point. Likewise, students will find that sidewalks on Temple Ave. are not currently available. Areas on the northern-most side of campus are largely unaffected.

options on campus mapThe newly expanded campus map has options for what to show on its left hand side. Included is a check box for construction, as well as others for parking areas, restrooms, sustainability efforts, etc. If a student expands the construction option, walking paths from high traffic areas of the campus to other buildings show in purple and may be clicked on and off.
