Mt SAC’s Animation and Gaming program students will showcase their creations from low-tech board games to high-tech virtual reality experiences at the fifth annual Animation and Game Fest Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Professor Sunil Thankamushy said the event gives students the opportunity to exhibit their work in front of their peers and the whole college.

“We are in the business of creating entertainment as part of the entertainment industry,” Thankamushy said. “It’s one thing to make games and animation as an assignment for class. But the next step is to see what it feels like when a live audience sees it and interacts with it. That’s a huge part of their education for animation and gaming students.”

What began as a small, one-room event for gaming students has expanded to include animation as well as students from the Commercial and Entertainment Arts program, who will be exhibiting their artwork on the show floor.

New this year, the fest will feature virtual reality games created by students in a program that began in the fall and can lead to a new Virtual Reality Designer Certificate.

Held the week before finals, the free Animation and Game Fest will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Building 13. Complimentary pizza and drinks will be available. Visitors can play games and win prizes designed and built by Mt. SAC students.
