Mt. SAC honored the best of the best amongst its students and professors during the annual Students and Educators of Distinction Awards Ceremony at the Student Center on Saturday May 18 at 11:30am.

Students were nominated by faculty and staff in four different categories including Academic Achievement, Service Achievement, Competitive Achievement, and Personal Achievement. An Educator of Distinction is a Mt. SAC professor, staff member, or manager who is nominated by a student to be honored for outstanding contributions to the student experience at Mt. SAC.

“I could not have been more fortunate,” said student Nicole Bewley-Hudson, who will be receiving a Personal Achievement award. “Call it fate, kismet, or just plain luck, but I don’t think I would have had the success that I have had at Mt. SAC anywhere else.

I am so thankful for the professors I have had who encouraged me to do my best and helped to rebuild my self-esteem, giving me the courage to pursue my goals that I had once thought long lost.”

Bewley-Hudson will be transferring to Cal Poly Technic University Pomona in the Fall of 2024 and majoring in Business Administration.

Students are nominated through faculty and staff nominations, and then submit an essay focused on their category, letters of recommendation, and an activity transcript for those in the Service Achievement Category. Students are then scored and selected by the Students of Distinction Committee. Recipients not only receive a $2,000 scholarship, plaque, label pin, but also legislative commendations in recognition of their achievements.

Employees are nominated by Mt. SAC students and scored by the Educators of Distinction Committee. Based on candidate information and criteria, the committee will appoint approximately five recipients.
