Mt. San Antonio College’s choirs have been named the most impressive in the country, according to College Rank.

The Chamber Singers and Singcopation were among 20 choirs to be recognized based on competition results, world rankings, touring, historical significance, performing schedule, and audition competitiveness. Mt. SAC was the only California community college named on the list, and beat out USC, Yale University and Harvard University.

“We are incredibly honored, and humbled, to receive this recognition,” said Bruce Rogers, director of Choral Activities.

The Chamber Singers consists of 38 auditioned singers who perform works from the Renaissance to new works of the 21st century. The group has been named “Choir of the World” and boasts many other accolades including five performances at Carnegie Hall, six European tours, and 10 first-place finishes at international choir competitions in Europe, South Africa, and China.

Singcopation, the college’s vocal jazz ensemble, consists of 14 auditioned singers. They have performed throughout the United States and Canada, and in Australia, China, and Europe.  They have 18 albums to their credit and have performed six times at the Monterey Jazz Festival. They also have been honored 19 times by Downbeat Magazine as the best two-year college vocal jazz group and for various performances.
