The Mt. SAC Chamber Singers traveled this summer to Austria to participate in an international choral competition and took home the top prize in the Classical category. The group also earned second in the Folk Song category.

The Spittal Choral Competition has been held since 1964 and was held at a castle. The group competed against choirs from Spain, Thailand, Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland and Macedonia.

“Competing at the prestigious Spittal Choral Competition was life changing for all the students.  They not only won a first place award, but they had the opportunity to meet singers from all the other choirs, making friends and learning about the lives of people who live in other countries,” said Bruce Rogers, director of Choral Activities.  “I could not be prouder with how our students performed and how they conducted themselves as ambassadors for the United States.”

The Chamber Singers group consists of 38 auditioned singers who specialize in choral music of all genres. In addition to the competition, the group also performed in several locations throughout Austria, including at the Salzburg Dom Cathedral, and Germany.

“The Chamber Singers concert tour to Austria and Germany was truly something special,” Rogers said. “The audiences were incredibly receptive and appreciative, and at the end of each performance, they continued their applause for our choir for what seemed like forever.”
