More than 70 Mt. SAC students who are transferring to a university in the fall celebrated their achievements during College Signing Day at UCLA.

Seventy-one Mounties attended the May 1 event, part of the Reach Higher initiative started by former first lady Michelle Obama.  Reach Higher aims to encourage students to pursue higher education while also celebrating those who will be attending a university this year.

The event featured Mrs. Obama, celebrities such as John Legend, athletes and other performers in celebration of the students’ academic achievements and to offer encouragement and guidance on how to make the most of their future educational opportunities.

College Signing Day is a national celebration of all high school seniors and transfer students, especially those from low-income, underrepresented, and first-generation college-going backgrounds who have committed to pursuing higher education — whether at a community college, a four-year college or university, or a professional training program, or by joining the military. The event is held on May 1 to coincide with a common deadline for students to respond to offers of admission at most colleges and universities.
