Synapse I, the biennial Faculty Arts Exhibition now on display,  gives faculty an opportunity to showcase their talent and allows students to see the variety of their teachers’ work.

“It gives you an idea of the faculty that we hire. We also have tremendous facilities, and are really fortunate at this college,” said Sue Long, dean of the Arts Division. “The gallery is one of the premiere locations on campus, but the heart and soul of what we have and do here is within the faculty.”

The exhibit features paintings, sculptures, animation and photography from new and tenured faculty members.  Students, teachers, friends and artists gathered at the opening reception on March 21, to meet the featured artists.

The exhibit allows the Fine Arts Department to introduce some of its newest faculty members, including Ronald Husband, a retired animator known for his work at Walt Disney in feature animations such as Fantasia 2000 and the Lion King. This is Husband’s fifth semester teaching at Mt. SAC and his first time in the show. It takes him about a year to complete each piece.

“I’ve always wanted to contribute to the exhibit,” said Husband. “I’m happy I finished in time for this year’s show.”

Also featured in the show is work by retiring fine arts faculty members, Susie Rubenstein and Dirk Hagner.

The exhibit will run through April 18, 2019 and is free and open to the public. The gallery is located in Building 1B and is open Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Tuesday evenings 5 to 7:30 p.m. For more information visit the Art Gallery Website.
