Angelica Cruz and Marian Huang have been selected as 2019 Coca-Cola Academic Team Scholars by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation in partnership with Phi Theta Kappa.

Selections for the scholarship are based on scores the students earned in the ALL-USA Academic Team competition. Out of 2,000 applications received this year, only 150 students were selected.

Cruz placed as a Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship and Huang placed as a Bronze Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Students were nominated for the Academic Team by Heidi Lockhart, Director of the Honors Program at Mt. SAC based on their exceptional achievements on campus and in the community.

“The Coca–Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding students at community colleges,” said Jane Hale Hopkins, president of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa and make it possible for deserving students to achieve their educational goals.”

Winners will be recognized in both local and statewide ceremonies and Phi Theta Kappa will recognize the winners on stage at the PTK Catalyst Annual Convention from April 4-6 in Orlando, Florida.

The Coca-Cola Academic Team recognizes high achieving college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor combined with leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom to benefit society.

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of community college students and helping them grow as scholars and leaders. The society is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 10 nations.
