In its first week, a campus-wide effort to support Mt. SAC DACA students has raised more than $10,000 in donations, mainly from Mt. SAC faculty, staff and administrators.

The Mt. SAC Foundation has received donations ranging from $5 to $2,000 for the Dream Gifts program, which will aid undocumented students or Dreamers pay processing fees to renew their DACA status. Dreamers have until Oct. 5 to renew their status and pay the $495 Homeland Security processing fee.

“The timeline for applying to renew DACA is extremely short, which means that many students have not had time to save up the $495 renewal fee. Your gift could make a young person's dream possible," said English professor Gary Enke, who donated $500.

Donations can be made online through the Mt. SAC Foundation’s web page at mtsac.edu/foundation. All contributions are tax deductible. The program’s goal is to raise $20,000.

“It's important to support the Dream Program and the Dreamers,” said ESL counselor Michael Ngo, who donated $100. “Dreamers deserve a chance to stay as they live and contribute to our communities.”
