Free Solar Eclipse Viewing
August 01, 2017 - 10:43 AM
Join the solar eclipse fever on August 21, 2017 at the Mt. SAC Randall Planetarium
in Building 26C.
Mt. SAC will host a FREE viewing party, allowing participants to safely view the
partial solar eclipse.
Weather permitting, solar telescopes will be set up in Parking Lot G from 8:45 a.m.
to 12 p.m. The Planetarium will also provide free shows beginning at 8:15 a.m. with
the last show at noon. Seats are provided on a first come, first served basis.
The eclipse begins at 9:06 a.m., reaches maximum eclipse at 10:22 a.m. and ends at
11:45 a.m. While a narrow strip of the United States will experience a total eclipse,
Californians will see a partial solar eclipse. The last total solar eclipse viewable
from the U.S. was in February 1979. The next total solar eclipse visible in the U.S.
will occur in April 2024.
Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and sunblock to enjoy the entire
length of the eclipse.
Parking is free for the event in student lots. The closest parking is in Student
Lot G and Lot H.
