Art of Skate Festival to showcase extreme sport

Skateboard aficionados will be stoked to learn their culture will be celebrated on
Sept. 17 and 18 at the Multicultural Center at Mt. SAC.
The Art of Skate Festival, a special two-day event, will feature community pillars Peggy Oki from the famous Z-Boys, the Pawnshop Skate Co., and more.
This festival kicks off Diana Berger Art Gallery’s Fall Exhibition: The Art of Skate: Activism, Art, and Design. The art exhibition will be available at the campus gallery from Sept. 18 to Nov.
13, and admission is free and open to the public.
On Sept. 17, there will be an Illustration Deck Showcase on the patio of Building 410-2030 from noon to 3 p.m.
At the same time, Oki will be presenting her Origami Whale Project. Then, at 4 p.m., she will be the featured guest at an equity speaker series presentation.
On Sept. 18, the Pawnshop Skate Jam will take place at the patio of Building 410-2030 from 1-4 p.m.
From 4-7 p.m., the Opening Reception for the exhibition will take place in Building 1B/C-10.
The festival will be chock-full of artwork, food, and activities. There also will be deck and shirt raffles, free stuff, and more.
